Not that long ago that, people could actually do things without googling them first.  Or they had to learn how to do them hands-on.  In other words, your grandparents had a whole set of skills your kids probably never will.

According to a new survey of 2,000 people, here are the ten traditional skills that are dying out . . .

 

 

1.  Reading a map.

 

2.  Using a compass.

 

3.  Knowing how to tie different knots.

 

4.  Darning socks, which means fixing holes in them.  Most young people don’t even know “darning” is a word.

 

5.  Looking something up in a book by using the index.

 

6.  Knowing how to format a letter.

 

7.  Knowing measurement conversions, like there are four quarts in a gallon.

 

8.  Spelling and grammar.

 

9.  Building a fire.

 

10.  Having good penmanship, because no one writes anything anymore.
