Joseph Llanes/Republic NashvilleA Thousand Horses is closing in on the #1 spot at country radio with their debut single, “Smoke.” The track merges the band’s Southern rock roots with today’s country sound. A Thousand Horses lead singer Michael Hobby looks back to the ’90s when country stars like Travis Tritt and Confederate Railroad mixed Southern rock into their hit songs.
“It’s always kind of been in country music throughout the years,” Michael explains, “and it’s been a little bit since it’s happened actually.”
Band member Graham DeLoach adds, “I feel like both genres are very like-minded. So, it only makes sense.”
With their debut album, Southernality, coming out very soon, A Thousand Horses hopes to make an even bigger impact on the country format.
Guitarist Zach Brown says, “I think it’s cool to kind of contribute to the future of country music. We were just thinking about that. Even on our tour, we’re like, ‘Man, this could be people’s first time, first concert, you know. We could be someone’s first concert.’ That’s awesome.”
A Thousand Horses release their new album, Southernality, on June 9.
