Photo by Quantrell Colbert/NBCTonight, Dolly Parton builds on the success she had in 2015 with the first film based on her life, as the new TV movie Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love premieres on NBC.

“We got such great ratings on the little Coat of Many Colors movie last year… I guess that’s because there’s not that many faith-based, family-type things on any more,” Dolly says. “I know I have missed it. You know like Little House on the Prairie and The Waltons and that sort of thing.”

While you’ll see more of Dolly in this year’s movie than you did in the last, she jokes her role may not be all that wholesome.

“I talk… a lot when I’m onstage about how I got my look, about the town tramp, about this lady in our hometown that was the town trollop — big hair and painted-up lips and all that,” she laughs. “So I thought, ‘Oh, I’m gonna write this in to where I can play myself, the town tramp that I patterned my look after when I was little.’ So I’m the painted lady.  So I got a little part in the movie playing that. Who better than me, right?”

If all goes well, Dolly teases her Coat of Many Colors TV empire could continue to grow.

“We may even do a series of my life, called Life of Many Colors based on that same thing, if we get good ratings with this.”

Christmas of Many Colors:  Circle of Love airs at 9 p.m. ET tonight on NBC.
