Image Courtesy CMAAshley Monroe teamed up with Blake Shelton for a duet on her last album, Like a Rose, and now she’s returning the favor by singing on his latest single, “Lonely Tonight.” Of course, Ashley has recorded with Blake’s wife, Miranda Lambert, as a member of Pistol Annies, but Blake didn’t just assume Ashley would say yes to the duet.

“He goes, ‘If you don’t love it, you can’t sing it,'” Ashley says of Blake’s duet pitch. “And I go, ‘Send it to me right now!’ I was thinking, ‘Please let me love it.’ But I did, instantly.”

Ashley feels like everyone can relate to the longing for an old love she and Blake sing about in the song.

She adds, “I couldn’t be more honored to do it.”

As for her own music, Ashley plans to release a new album in spring 2015. She’s been working with Vince Gill on the project.

Says Ashley, “I wrote all of ’em again. Me and Miranda wrote one. I’ve got a bunch of friends I’ve collaborated with on, so I’m really, really proud of it as well.”

Look for Ashley and Blake to perform “Lonely Tonight” on NBC’s The Voice on Monday and ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! later in the week.
