Book Discussion Group @ Senior Center
Sep 19 @ 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm

The Manhattan Book Discussion Group and the VIP(Visually Impaired Persons) Support Group will meet on Tuesday, September 19th in the Riley County Senior Center.  The Book Group will meet at 1:00 pm.  The title of the book is “The Underground Railroad” by Colson Whitehead.  The VIP meeting will follow from 2:00 to 3:00 pm. This will be a Share meeting.  Please join and bring any questions or concerns you would like to share with the group.  We all learn from each other about how to cope with everyday life as our vision changes.  Any questions please contact Kathy at 539-1973.

“Earth’s Survival – Decoding Science” Movie @ Manhattan Public Library

The movie “Earth’s Survival – Decoding Science” will be shown at the Manhattan Public Library Auditorium on Wednesday, September 20th at 7:00 pm.  The NFHAS has purchased this film and donated it to the library.

Senior Center Kitchen Open House @ Senior Center

You are cordially invited to attend the Seniors’ Service Center Kitchen Open House on Thursday, September 21st at 1:00 pm.  Help them recognize the partners and donors that made this project possible.  The kitchen will be open for viewing even though some finishing touches will still need to be completed.

Fall Apple Day Festival @ Fort Riley

Fall Apple Day Festival returns to Fort Riley from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm on Saturday, September 23rd.  The festival, which is free and open to the public, is the largest annual event at Fort Riley, averaging approximately 7,000 attendees.  Community members are invited to meet their Army through various attractions including Commanding General’s Mounted Color Guard demonstrations, helicopter and tank displays, military working dog demonstrations, an ATV rodeo, kid-friendly activities and apple pie sales from the Historical and Archeological  Society of Fort Riley.  A number of food and information booths will also be available.  Parking is free and a shuttle bus will run from Riley’s Conference Center to the festival grounds throughout the day.  No pets or alcohol are allowed at the festival.  The event is open to the public.  Visitors who don’t have a Department of Defense ID card should go to http://www.riley.army.mil and click on the yellow “Accessing Fort Riley” tab on the right-hand side of the page.  Passes for the day can be obtained prior to September 23rd.

City Candidates Forum @ Fire Station

The Manhattan Association of Realtors and Flint Hills Area Builders Association will sponsor a City Candidates Forum on Thursday, September 28th at 7:00 pm in the Fire Station Lecture Hall.  There will be time prior to and after the Forum to meet and greet the organization members.  Plus, this will be open to the public.

The Wizard of Oz @ Columbian Theatre

The Columbian will be presenting The Wizard of Oz during the OZtoberFest weekend.  The Mystery show will start on Thursday, October 5th at 7:30 to kick off all events.  Then there will be two more shows the 6th and 7th at 7:30 pm as well.  The Oz Murder Mystery is an original comedy written by a local playwright and teacher Bryan Scruggs.  This year there will be a new twist endings each night and even new characters.  It will be even better than last year.

Campus Mobile Food Pantry @ Chester E Peters Recreation Complex

The Campus Mobile Food Pantry will have fresh produce at no cost on Friday, October 13th, from 4 – 6 pm while supplies last in parking Lot C-1 of the Chester E Peters Recreation Complex.  This is open to all K-State and Manhattan community members.  Questions? Garage Sale @ Wreath Barn - CiCo Park

The Riley County 4-H Citizenship Washington Focus Fundraiser Garage Sale will be held on Friday, October 20th from 6:00-8:00 pm and Saturday, October 21st from 7:30 am to Noon at Wreath Barn in CiCo Park north of Pottorf Hall.  If you would like to donate to this event you may drop off items on location on Thursday, October 19th, Noon to 8:00 pm and Friday, October 20th from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm.  If you have questions about this event contact John Jobe at 785-537-6350.
