Shuttle to Victory Fest @ CiCo Park

The City of Manhattan will provide shuttles for Manhattan residents to attend Victory Fest at Marshall Army Airfield on Saturday.  Fort Riley is celebrating 100 years of the Big Red One with a concert lineup and fireworks Saturday.  The event is open to the general public, and tickets are on sale at VictoryFest2017.com.  The City will provide shuttles from 10:30 am to 11:00 pm Saturday to give Manhattan residents an easy way to attend the event.  The shuttles will leave from the north parking lot at CiCo Park as needed.  The last shuttle will leave Marshall Army Airfield after the concert fireworks at 11:00 pm.  There will be a number of activities for kids and adults.

Old Settlers Day @ Beecher Bible & Rifle Church

The Beecher & Rifle Church, Wabaunsee will host an “Old Settlers Day” on Sunday, August 27th.  Events begin with Church Service at 9:45 am.  Rev. Lynn Roth officiating.  “Potluck Dinner” will follow at noon.  Afternoon program will start at 1:30 pm.  Guest speaker, Zona Galle; North Newton, Ks., is a descendent of the Platt Brothers.  The Platt Family, was instrumental in the early settlement of the Wabaunsee Area, including “The Underground Railroad” and “the BB&RC”.  The public is welcomed to attend this event, an educational program revealing information not found in many history books.  Time to reminisce with friends and acquaintances. RCLA Summer Tour @ Shannon Creek Lamb

The annual Riley County Livestock Association Summer Tour will be held on Sunday, August 27th, starting at 5:00 pm at Shannon Creek Lamb, 5025 Hwy 16, Olsburg, KS.  Shannon Creek Lamb is a new confinement  lambing operation owned by Joseph Hubbard. In addition to touring the sheep facility, participants will also tour and learn about Hubbard’s beef cattle rotational grazing system.  From the Hwy 24 & 13 junction in Manhattan, Hubbard’s operation is located 15 miles north on Hwy 13, then 4 miles west on Hwy 16.  From Randolph, Shannon Creek Lamb is 9.6 miles east on Hwy 16.  A free supper provided by the Riley County Livestock Association will be served following the tour.  Food and table service are provided.  Reservations to attend the RCLA Summer Tour are needed by Wednesday, August 23rd.  Register online at www.riley.ksu.edu, or call the Riley County Extension Office at 785-537-6350.

MHSAA Annual Picnic @ Wefald Pavilion City Park

The Manhattan High School Alumni Association (MHSAA) in holding their annual Picnic in the Park, Sunday, August 27th at Wefald Pavilion in the City Park.  All Manhattan High alums and families are welcome.  Social hour begins at 5:30 pm followed by the potluck dinner at 6:00 pm.  MHSAA will provide the hot dogs/buns, condiments, drinks and paper service.  Bring a side dish, salad, or dessert to share.  The entertainment for the evening will be provided by the Manhattan Pops Choir.  MHSAA will hold their annual meeting following the picnic.  School Board candidates have been invited to the picnic and annual meeting.  Dr. Marvin Wade, Superintendent, will provide an update on the Indian at the annual meeting.

Fish & Game Annual Picnic @ Tuttle Creek Trap Park

Riley County Fish and Game Association annual picnic and new member drive will be on Thursday, August 31st at 5:30 pm at the Tuttle Creek Trap Park.  Eat free food until the food runs out.  Have a chance to win four $100 VISA gift cards.  Memberships are $25 and good through 2018.  For more information call 539-2663.

Toy Drive @ Manhattan City Park

The 5th Annual Toy Drive benefiting the children of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital & Children’s Mercy Hospital will be on Saturday, September 16th from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm at City Park.  They will have a FREE Kids Carnival with the donation of a new toy.  (Please no stuffed animals) They will have hot dogs; raffles; face painting; cotton candy; bounce houses; Star Wars characters; popcorn and a silent auction!
