Arista NashvilleCam channels her inner Amelia Earhart in the music video for “Mayday,” and in a just-released behind-the-scenes clip, she reveals she sees a parallel between the pioneering aviatrix and many female artists’ struggles to get played on the radio today.
“There seems to be a lot of similarities in country music right now,” she reflects. “There’s kind of a similar feeling, where you get to be like one of the few women — which it shouldn’t be that way, but hopefully this is kind of an inspiring thing for a lot of other women musicians that are gonna be coming back.”
If you’re curious about the dramatic underwater crash in the video, Cam says the pool used to film the scenes also happens to have been recently used by another female empowerment icon — Beyonce. You can check out the entire “making of” video on YouTube.
Expect plenty of girl power onstage at Wednesday’s CMT Music Awards, as Cam performs “Mayday” with “Work from Home” hitmakers Fifth Harmony.
