Matt Jones/CosmopolitanWith Wednesday’s eighth stint as co-host of the CMA Awards now under her belt, Carrie Underwood now has another high-profile, high-fashion TV gig on Thursday. She’ll be a guest judge on the season finale of Project Runway.  While the season 4 winner of American Idol obviously has some reality show experience, Carrie says it’s definitely different being on the other side of the table.

“I’ve never been on the judging side of things before. I’ve been the judged, you know, so being on Idol I was the one who stood up there and listened, you know, to what the judges had to say. It was hard being on the other side of it. I mean, I know, it’s hard being a contestant, but it was really hard being a judger,” she reflects.

As you might expect, Carrie’s experience taking criticism from the Idol judges only made her more sympathetic to the Runway contestants.

“That’s somebody’s, that’s their thing, that’s their passion, that’s their creative, you know. It was hard finding things to say even if I was trying to be constructive.”

The December Cosmopolitan covergirl says she definitely sees the similarities between her career and design. “Something like fashion, it’s like music. Something that I can’t stand, somebody else might think is the best thing ever, so you know it’s pretty subjective,” she says. “But it was interesting being on the other side. I was so nervous, like trying to tell them, and I wanted to be positive.”

You can check out Carrie’s work as a judge Thursday night at 9 p.m. ET on Lifetime.
