CurbLeAnn Rimes has been under constant media scrutiny in the past four years thanks to her 2009 affair with, and subsequent marriage to, actor Eddie Cibrian. Though she's sat down for multiple interviews on the topic and defended her position through her Twitter account, LeAnn gives the public an even deeper view into her personal life on her new album, Spitfire, coming out Tuesday.
So, just how personal does LeAnn get on this album? Consider these lyrics from the album track "Borrowed": "I know you're not mine, only borrowed/'Cause you already belong to her/Least you said so/But I'm starting to believe that ain't the whole truth/'Cause when we're lying side by side/I get the whole you."
LeAnn explains, "I didn't really set out to write an album that was this personal until I wrote 'Borrowed,' and then there was nothing that I couldn't tackle. No subject at that point. So, that's when the album kind of took on the life that it did."
Different songs on the album address all of the players in LeAnn's personal drama besides Eddie. In "What Have I Done," LeAnn asks for forgiveness from her ex-husband, Dean Sheremet. She even seems to hold out an olive branch to Eddie's ex-wife, Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Brandi Glanville, on the song "Just a Girl Like You." LeAnn says it's all an effort to get her own story in public.
"It came out through my music," LeAnn says. "When I say it's the truth, it's at no one else's expense but mine."
If the songs on Spitfire seem a little all over the place, it's an intentional move on LeAnn's part to capture the emotional rollercoaster ride she's been on since 2009.
She says of the new songs, "There's really moments that you get into not just the surface of the situation, but what really happened internally of emotionally and mentally, and I think people sometimes don't think that I thought about it that much or went through some of the emotions that I went through."
Fans can download Spitfire Tuesday through Walmart, Amazon.com and iTunes. Physical copies of the album will be sold exclusively at Walmart.
Look for LeAnn to promote Spitfire with an appearance on NBC's Tonight Show with Jay Leno Tuesday. She'll be on ABC's Good Morning America Monday, June 10.
