Sunny Sweeney Pulls No Punches on Brand-New Album, “Provoked”

Image Courtesy Jon Paul Bruno/Thirty TigersSunny Sweeney is back with a brand-new album out this week titled Provoked. It’s her first release since scoring at top 10 hit with “From a Table Away,” which led to an ACM nomination for Top New Female Vocalist in 2013.

The new project finds the native Texan outspoken as ever, singing about every aspect of her life from the divorce that ended her first marriage to the challenges of building a life with her current husband, Jeff. They tied the knot in 2011.

Sunny tells ABC News Radio, “I don’t mind singing about things and saying things that other people are thinking but don’t want to say.  I like doing that, because it relates to people.”

That honest attitude can be heard in the album’s first single, “Bad Girl Phase” — a song that speaks to the freedom Sunny experienced after her first marriage ended.

She says, “I didn’t do anything too crazy, but not having to check in was a big thing and going out with your girls and doing whatever you wanted. Not having to go home. Like, you could spend the night at your friend’s house.”

As for that album title, Sunny tells us her husband, Jeff actually came up with the word “provoked” to capture the spirit of these 13 songs. It also speaks to the spunky nature of Texas women.

Sunny says with a smile, “You mess with our eyeliner, or our hair, or our man, then there is a situation. Big situation.”

There are a few tender moments on Provoked, including an unlikely love song comparing her new man’s heart to a trusty automobile on “Used Cars.”

“I never thought that would happen,” Sunny says. “I never have written a love song.”

Provoked has already cracked the top 10 on the iTunes Country Albums chart.

Rascal Flatts Shares Their Solution for Beating Heartburn

Image Courtesy Big Machine RecordsRascal Flatts is one of the most successful acts in country music history, but that doesn’t mean they’re super-human. The guys often have to eat on the go due to their crazy schedules, which means they’re prone to getting heartburn. That’s why the Flatts’ Jay DeMarcus describes their partnership with Nexium 24 Hour as “a perfect marriage.”

“We have the freedom to live life without hesitation [and] not worry about when we’re eating or what we’re eating,” Jay tells ABC News Radio. “We try to be as healthy as we can, but sometimes with our schedule, it doesn’t allow us to make the healthiest choices. So, with Nexium 24 Hour, it’s one less thing we have to worry about.”

The guys in Rascal Flatts aren’t picky eaters according to guitarist Joe Don Rooney, and Nexium gives them the freedom to eat what they want when they want it.

He says, “We love food. There’s no doubt about it from Italian food to — love pizza, love hot dogs. We get a little American-style food, too. Hamburgers and stuff.”

Of course, the Flatts sometimes need heartburn relief after tipping back a few cocktails.

Jay says with a laugh, “It also helps if you’re hitting the vodka hard, too. You know what I mean? Get that burn going down your esophagus.”

On the music front, Rascal Flatts is climbing the country chart with their latest single, “Payback,” from their current album, Rewind.
