Sweet Talk PublicityHold on to your tackle box and life preserver — it turns out the man behind “Buy Me a Boat” isn’t pining for a piece of watercraft after all!

“I always kinda wanted a boat, but then I got a boat and I’d paint it camouflage and do all the things I wanted to do with it. Money always meant more to me than a boat, so I thought, ‘Man, maybe I could sell this thing and make $2 on Craigslist.’ So I’ve always kinda been that cat,” Chris Janson confessed at the number one party Tuesday for the song he co-wrote.

Even though he’d simply rather have the cash, the first-time chart-topper says he hopes to some day have the time — and the appropriate vessel — to spend some time on the water.

“It’s interesting ‘Buy Me a Boat’ being my first hit single, cause I’m not really like a boat-ey guy. I guess ’cause I really don’t have time to do it, man. I was working before I had this hit. I’m working even more now. Maybe someday when I retire I’ll have time to do it, and really just sit back and relax. ‘Cause I think it would be fun to have a nice pontoon with the kids and do the deal and catch some NOT fish on the lake, ’cause I can’t fish worth a damn,” he adds dryly.

Chris has another big hit on his hands right now, since he’s one of the co-writers on LOCASH‘s “I Love This Life,” which is currently in the top five. His second single, “Power of Positive Drinkin’,” is climbing the charts as well. The video, which features his wife and family, is now available on YouTube.

Next month, Chris heads out on tour with Blake Shelton.
