ABC/Image Group LAEven though Sam Hunt is the most-nominated country artist at Sunday’s American Music Awards, he doesn’t seem to take it too seriously. In fact, the Montevallo hitmaker, who’s up for three trophies, even waxes a little philosophical about it.
“You know, that’s the only thing about when they say the winners. You say there’s a winner, that implies there’s a loser, and I don’t know, I just don’t really think that anybody really loses in those categories,” he muses. “So many people are deserving and there are only so many awards. So I just sort of treat it as a chance to celebrate all the folks, the artists there who are nominated and who are maybe not nominated, but are a big part of the country music community.”
In addition to being up for Favorite Male Artist and Favorite Album in the country categories, Sam is also vying for New Artist of the Year, which is an all-genre award.
“Yeah, that was great, because….I’ll be, you know, representing country music — not just myself at a country music awards show. So I don’t feel deserving. I just feel like it’s a big responsibility. But it’s cool to be acknowledged by the larger music community in that way,” he reflects.
