Sire RecordsFor several months, it’s been rumored that Cyndi Lauper is cutting a country album, with the “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” icon being spotted in Music City and even showing up at this year’s Medallion Ceremony at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. Now, we know what she’s been up to.

Next year, the ’80s legend will release Detour, a set of country covers of songs from the ’50s and ’60s. Cyndi’s putting the finishing touches on it now, with several big-name guest stars also on board.

The first taste of Lauper going country, however, isn’t from the era covered on the forthcoming record. It’s a remake of Dolly Parton’s take on “Hard Candy Christmas,” her 1982 single from the musical The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. You can download the track starting Friday.

Detour is set for release sometime in 2016, though the exact date has yet to be revealed.
