ABC/Fred LeeAt last year’s ACM Awards, Dan+Shay delivered a memorable performance at AT&T Stadium in Dallas with Nick Jonas. This year, Nick will be back to team up with New Female Vocalist winner Kelsea Ballerini, while Dan+Shay once again have a shot at the Vocal Duo of the Year trophy.

“We’re so excited, first of all — just to be accepted into country music was a huge thing for us because we were huge fans,” Shay Mooney says. “We grew up loving country music and fell in love with the songwriting aspect of it. And to be a part of that duo category, there’s a lot of talented people out there, a lot of talented duos, and to be nominated is just an honor for us. So, whether win or lose, it’s not really ever a loss, because it’s just an honor to be nominated.”

From Brothers Osborne and Florida Georgia Line to Joey+Rory and Maddie&Tae, Shay says he and Dan are actually pretty tight with all the contenders in the Vocal Duo category.

“You know, we love all the other duos and it’s really cool, ’cause it’s really a family,” he adds. “Everyone in country music has been so cool to us, inviting us in and allowing us to do what we love. So it’s a huge honor.”

Though they’ve been nominated several times before, this year the duo’s odds could be improving. Dan+Shay celebrated their first number one back in December with “Nothin’ Like You.” Find out who takes home the trophy Sunday night starting at 8 p.m. ET, as the 51st ACM Awards air live from Las Vegas on CBS.
