MCA NashvilleWith his current single “Night’s on Fire” threatening to go top 15 any day, David Nail is enjoying being a new dad to nearly-six-month-old twins and preparing for the release of his new album, Fighter. But the Missouri native remembers a time when things weren’t nearly as good for him and his wife Catherine.

“When I met my wife and I proposed to her, I really naively thought, ‘Okay, I know all there is to know about [her], and three or four years into our marriage, we hit a really rough spot,” he reveals. “There were so many moments where I would come home from the road and be like, ‘Is this the Sunday morning her car’s not in the driveway?’”

Ultimately, it was the way Catherine handled that situation that inspired David to write the title track for his new record.

“Not only was it always in the driveway, but she would literally be in the living room like, ‘Hey! We’re dealing with this. Head on! I’m here. We’re in this for the long haul.’ You know, ‘We’re gonna fight for this!’” he recalls. “So that’s what the song is about. It’s like, ‘I thought I knew everything there was to know about you, but I never knew I had a fighter.’”

To tide fans over until his new project comes out, David recently released his new EP Uncovered, which features his take on four songs by artists ranging from Elvis to Adele to Phil Collins, plus a remake of a track from his first album. His fourth studio effort, Fighter, is due July 15.
