Kansas State University, President, Richard B. Meyers delivered his State of the University address Friday to a full crowd in the Student Union’s Forum Hall.

“The State of our University is Strong.”

Meyers spoke passionately about a broad range of topics pertaining to the University including conceal carry on campus.

“There’s not a President in the university system in Kansas under the Board of Regents that believes that it’s a good thing to have conceal carry on campus.”

Meyers offered a glimpse of hope for those wanting the law repealed.

“We may have a new dynamic in the legislature, so we’re going to attack it again.”

The President also highlighted the University’s to become a more diverse and inclusive campus. As part of that effort, Meyers said leadership has decided to create a new cabinet position, Chief of Diversity and Inclusion. A search is also underway for an Associate Vice President for Student Life, a new position that will primarily work with KSU’s multicultural student organizations.

In light of data showing a decrease in enrollment numbers earlier Friday, President Meyers spoke about the importance of modernizing the University’s budgetary model. The old “incremental budget” model has been utilized by KSU since the 1980’s. The transition, as Meyers warned, would be “painful.”

Meyers closed his speech with a hearty “Go Cats!”
