ABC/Image Group LAThursday night, Kelsea Ballerini made yet another one of her country music dreams come true, playing the main stage at CMA Music Festival at Nashville’s Nissan Stadium. Just to remind herself how far she’s come, she retraced the steps to where she’s been.

“Today I went up to the section where I sat like three years ago and I looked at the stage from that section. And I just got back in my head what it looks like, because I remember sitting there and watching CMA Fest, three years ago, four years ago, five years ago, and dreaming about playing on the stage but probably not thinking that it would happen anytime soon — but dreaming about it. It was such a good perspective check, because now I’m gonna think of that view when I’m on stage tonight.”

Like most of her country contemporaries, she also paused to remember why she’s here.

“This week is really — like, I feel like we get to say, ‘Thank you’ to the fans. These are the fans that like, make the t-shirts, put glitter on signs, wait in line, save up money and buy tickets. I mean, these are the most dedicated people and they’re the ones that make us love what we do. To be able to perform for all of them in the same place tonight on the same lineup as, you know, Miranda Lambert and Jason Aldean is crazy!”
