CMAEven though it’s more than six weeks before Dustin Lynch heads out on his Hell of a Night tour, he’s already busy getting ready for his first outing as a headliner.
“We have already started rehearsing for this tour, adding new intros and trying to figure out a way to weave songs together… designing the light show and all that good stuff,” he says.
And for the cowboy-hat-wearing traditionalist who’s not afraid to tackle non-traditional tunes like Drake’s “Hold On, We’re Going Home,” that means looking for new unexpected choices for his set list.
“We always like to cover songs from other genres. Just throw in, keep it fresh. It’s finding those right songs. It’s tough to find the song that fits that’s different enough, but not too different where you offend people, you know?” he laughs.
Dustin also collaborated with Luke Bryan, Thomas Rhett and Randy Houser on a cover of Maroon 5’s “Sugar” for their Kick Up the Dust trek, and he envisions a similar situation as he takes newcomer Chris Lane on tour with him.
“He’s been a friend for a long time, and I’ve been a fan of his for a long, long time. Even before I had a record deal, I knew of Chris, and knew what he was up to,” he remembers. “He puts on an incredible show. I would like to have Chris come back out at some point in my set and do something with me.”
The Hell of A Night tour kicks off November 14 in Richmond, Virginia, with New York City, Boston, Houston and New Orleans among its 35 stops.
