Justin Nolan KeyFriday night, Dustin Lynch plays the second of two sold-out headlining shows in Chicago, as he kicks off the 2016 leg of his Hell of a Night tour. Having clocked a significant amount of time on the road with Luke Bryan, the “Where It’s At” hitmaker says he’s learned a lot from the CMA and ACM Entertainer of the Year– particularly about just having a good time entertaining the crowd.

“Seeing him not give a crap every night onstage, honestly, has allowed me to realize, okay it doesn’t matter. I don’t need to be up here critiquing myself while I’m doing it. Just have fun. And that’s allowed me to have a lot better connection with the crowd in front of me,” he says. “Especially when we go do our headlining stuff. We’re playing smaller venues so I really can have a connection with pretty much everybody in the room.”

While Dustin may’ve picked up a thing or two from country music’s most notorious booty shaker, he warns fans shouldn’t expect him to copy Luke’s moves.

“I feel like I’m moving a lot better onstage now. I’m not talking about twerking like he does,” he jokes. “I just feel like my movements are more confident. I’m not worried about how I look the whole time I’m up there, you know. I’m just having fun and goofing off.”

Dustin’s tour with Chris Lane and Tyler Rich wraps up just in time for him to rejoin Luke and Little Big Town for the Kill the Lights Tour in February. His latest single, “Mind Reader,” just cracked the top 30.
