EB Media PREric Church opened Nashville’s brand-new Ascend Amphitheater Thursday night with a sold-out acoustic show. According to The Tennessean, Eric kicked off the show by playing “Smoke a Little Smoke” and “Talladega” alone on his guitar. An onstage bar gave band members a place to hang out until Eric called them up to join him throughout the night.
Since the show was acoustic, the audience often was louder than Eric’s singing, and that came in handy when Eric messed up the words to some of his more obscure songs.
Eric closed out the night with a brand-new song, “Three Year Olds,” inspired by his oldest son, Boone. Before playing the song, Eric told a story about Boone throwing a fishing rod and a tackle box into the water during a fishing trip. He told the crowd, “I am 38 years old and I did not know a fishing pole would sink faster than a tackle box. I also learned a garbage can is a good place to hide truck keys.”
The lyrics to “Three Year Olds” includes the lines, “Say I love you all day long/When you’re wrong you should just say so/I learned that from a three year old.”
Eric will wrap up his two-night stand at Nashville’s Ascend Amphitheater with another sold-out acoustic show Friday night.
