MCA NashvilleDavid Nail is just full of surprises lately. Not only will his new single, “Night’s on Fire,” from his new album Fighter, premiere this weekend on ABC’s Saturday Night Football, he’ll also become a first-time father within the next month or so. He and his wife Catherine revealed they’re expecting twins last week on the CMA red carpet.

Given the fact they’re having multiples and they’d been trying to become parents for awhile, David said they thought it best to wait awhile before making a big reveal.

“You know, it was just a long time, you know, in the making. You know, we’ve wanted this and worked really hard for this for a long time,” he reveals. “Thus keeping it somewhat of a secret, just with twins anytime it’s a bit of a high risk and so, just for the sake of the babies and for the sake of my wife, [we waited to make it public.]”

The “Whatever She’s Got” hitmaker also went on to reveal the gender of the babies, even though it sounds like he and his wife — who teaches second grade in the Nashville area — are apparently having trouble agreeing on names.

“It is a boy and a girl. I will not reveal the names, only because we are not completely sure on those. I mean, I’m sure as far as I’m concerned, but you know, the wife makes the rules,” he jokes.

The hope is that David will have finished his final date on the Darius Rucker tour November 20 in Toledo, Ohio, before his little ones come. By the time he performs Donny Hathaway’s soulful “This Christmas” December 3 on ABC’s CMA Country Christmas, the odds are good he may already be a father of two.
