Mark Tucker/Randee St. NicholasEver since they took “In Another’s Eyes” to number 2 in the summer of 1997, there’s been talk of a duet album from Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood. Now, it looks like it may finally be on the horizon.

Backstage last weekend at their first World Tour stop of 2016, the pair revealed they’ve been finishing up a Christmas record over their holiday break.

“To hear her do ‘What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve?’ is like, ‘Oh my God!’” Garth said, bragging about his wife’s singing. “It was supposed to be a duet… About 30 seconds into the song I just walked out of the studio because I knew it wasn’t going to be a duet. I wasn’t about to open my mouth after that, you know? It’s just her doing her greatest Ella [Fitzgerald], you know, impersonation with Trisha kinda mixed in there… It was amazing!”

Garth and Trisha have both cut multiple holiday projects before, though it’s been awhile. Garth released Beyond the Season in 1992, followed by Garth Brooks and the Magic of Christmas in 1999. Trisha’s The Sweetest Gift came out in 1994, and she also did a hard-to-find holiday album for Hallmark in 1997. So far, there’s no word on when the new collection may be ready.

Next up, the superstar couple plays five shows in Baltimore, Maryland, over the next two weekends, kicking off this Friday at Royal Farms Arena.
