Mark TuckerGarth Brooks remembered his friend and frequent songwriting partner Kim Williams this weekend during his shows in North Charleston, South Carolina. “Papa Loved Mama,” “Ain’t Goin’ Down (‘Til the Sun Comes Up’)” and “It’s Midnight Cinderella” were some of the more well-known songs the two wrote together.

The 68-year-old’s passing came as a surprise to the superstar, who said he’d just emailed him a couple days earlier about a song the two were working on. Garth closed his show with one of Williams’ best-known songs, “Three Wooden Crosses,” which was a hit for Randy Travis.
