MCA NashvilleGeorge Strait is often hailed as the King of Country Music, but he spends just as much time thinking about land conservation as he does singing songs. That’s why Park Cities Quail is giving George the T. Boone Pickens Lifetime Sportsman Awards this Thursday in Dallas.

According to the Dallas Morning News, George was selected for the honor thanks to his work managing the wildlife habitats on his ranches in Texas. He’s worked with a wildlife biologist for years now to create healthy environments for the animals on his properties. The Country Music Hall of Fame member also manages the deer population on his ranches and mostly just hunts for “the ugliest buck he can remove from the herd.”

As for his music career, George will wrap up The Cowboy Rides Away tour this June in Dallas. Go to GeorgeStrait.com for tour dates.
