Collumbia NashvilleNot only is “My Church” the first hit for newcomer Maren Morris, the Texas native also just got the chance to sing her top-15 song on the stage of the Mother Church of Country Music, Nashville’s historic Ryman Auditorium.

“It really was one of those out of body experiences,” she recalls. “I was talking to my friend John Osborne, who’s in Brothers Osborne. He was giving me some advice. He was like, ‘If you ever feel nervous getting on that stage or anxious, just look at the stained glass windows in the top, and you’ll feel this rush of calm.’ And I did! I went up there and I felt that I was just in this dream state the whole night. It was amazing.”

Maren got the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity thanks to another artist who’s enjoying his own first taste of widespread success, Chris Stapleton. Maren says she’s actually had the chance to get to know Chris and his wife and fellow vocalist Morgane quite well.

“I’m such a fan of his, and hers. She is so incredible in her own right, and sweet. I opened for him a few months ago in Atlanta for the first time, and this was before all the CMA stuff blew him up. They’ve always been really, really sweet to me, and to ask me to open one of the shows at the Ryman of all places, and I had never played it before. I texted Morgane this morning and I was just like, ‘You have no idea how many dreams ya’ll made come true last night.'”

Maren’s self-titled, five-song EP is out now, and just last week, she turned in her completed full-length first album, though we’re still waiting to learn the release date.  This summer, she heads out on tour with Keith Urban and Brett Eldredge.
