ABC RadioThe new season of American Idol doesn’t premiere on ABC until March 11, but Luke Bryan’s already learned a thing or two about balancing his judging duties with his concert schedule.

“What was a nightmare was, I booked Idol last year over the top of touring,” he explained Tuesday at a news conference unveiling his 2018 stadium trek this summer. “So, I think four nights in a row, my night’s sleep was on a couch on a plane, you know, sleeping three or four hours. I think I got a 5-hour Energy sponsorship at some point during that,” he joked.

In 2018, Luke won’t play his first date on the What Makes You Country XL Stadium Sized Tour until May 31, when Idol has wrapped for the season.

“I kind of left the back half of April and most of May [open]. The thought did cross my mind to try to do a couple shows in May,” he admitted, “but I was like, ‘Ah, I ain’t doin’ that. I’m gonna focus on Idol.’ I think we start with CMA Music Fest, and then from there, then it’s…”

“All the really hot months,” tourmate Jon Pardi interjected.

Sam HuntCarly PearceMorgan Wallen and DJ Rock will join Luke on his thirteen stadium dates this year. Look for ticket info to be announced locally in the coming weeks.
