Image Courtesy RCA NashvilleJake Owen is the proud owner of a brand-new, gold iPhone 6 Plus, but he didn’t wait in a long line at the Apple store to get it when the phone came out Friday. Instead, Jake turned to Craigslist Friday while on the road in Kansas City. He found a guy who’d waited in line to get the iPhone so he could then turn around and sell it at a higher price.

Jake explains, “I gave him a few hundred extra bucks for it and got one brand-new out of the box the day it came out. We were on the road. I just was out on Kansas City Craigslist and met the guy at a Starbucks.”

That iPhone investment is already paying off, though. Jake and Cadillac Three band member Jaren Johnston, who co-wrote Jake’s hit “Beachin’,” were already writing songs on the iPhone by Friday night.

Jake played a bit of the song during an interview prior to his #1 party in Nashville Monday to celebrate the success of “Beachin’.” While the song played, Jake said with a smile, “So, all the guys that were giving me hell during the day about, ‘Dude, you’re an idiot. You would waste 300 extra dollars on an iPhone?’ I’m like, ‘Sorry!'”

It’s no wonder Jake says he really identifies with his brand-new single about always wanting more, “What We Ain’t Got.” It’s the latest release from Jake’s current album, Days of Gold.
