ABC/Image Group LAKacey Musgraves is set to perform at this year’s first-ever G Fest June 16-18 in Muskogee, Oklahoma. The festival, put on by the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame, will pay tribute to the late, great Merle Haggard.

“Artists like Merle Haggard are important because they became legends and set trends not by worrying about money and fame but just by being themselves,” the Pageant Material singer says. “So it just inspires me even more to uphold what’s important to me as a person and songwriter first and not worry about the rest.”

The Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame has also been given the go-ahead to erect a sculpture of the Hag on the lawn of the Muskogee Civic Center, where Haggard recorded his iconic Okie from Muskogee album. The Hall is working to procure a statue Merle himself had commissioned, and had originally intended to place on the property at his California ranch.
