FOXLast week as Keith Urban checked out his new exhibit at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, he revealed that his father was receiving hospice care. Sunday night in a statement, the Australian superstar announced Robert Urban passed away this weekend.

“I’ve been deeply touched by the outpouring of love and support that Nic[ole Kidman] and I, and our family, have received since my Dad’s passing on Saturday night,” Keith said. “His long battle with cancer is now over and he is finally at peace. My Dad’s love of country music and America set me on my life’s journey, and shaped so much of who I am today. Thank you to everyone who has kept us all in your thoughts and prayers.”

After seeing “Keith Urban So Far…” for the first time, he recalled one of the pivotal ways his father shaped his career.

“My dad particularly always thought it was important that I dress like a performer. A lot of those outfits way down at the end were actually made by him, with the help of my mom a little bit, but particularly my dad,” he reminisced. “Yeah, he just thought I should dress well and look like a performer. And a lot of these talent quests that I went in in Australia, these country music talent quests, they often had categories — best dressed male, best dressed female — and I often won best dressed male. Sometimes that was the only thing I won!”

Keith was set to talk with the media on Monday, but has postponed his interviews to be with his family.
