Capitol NashvilleAs Keith Urban prepares to release his new single, “Break on Me,” on Monday, he admits it’s hard to explain exactly which songs he decides to record and which ones will eventually make it to radio. For him, he says the process is mostly intuitive.

“I mean for me it’s about resonating with a song. It’s really as simple as that. I hear so many songs. Right now I’m hearing lots and lots and lots and lots and lots of songs,” he says of the process of making his new record. “There’s just certain ones that hit me…Some of them grow on you after awhile. Some of them you love and then they burn out quickly.”

After previewing a snippet of the song for fans in his YouTube announcement about the single, he mentioned he couldn’t wait to play it live. Keith says he loves the way a song changes for him as he moves through the process of recording it in the studio and then bringing it to the stage.

“You know people forget these are new songs to us,” he points out. “Often after you record a song maybe I’ve only sung it a handful of times, so you’re gonna get down the road and really start to wrap yourself around the song.”

Fans can start wrapping themselves around “Break on Me” when it premieres Monday at 2 p.m. CT. The follow-up to the chart-topping “John Cougar, John Deere, John 3:16” is the second single from Keith’s forthcoming eighth studio album.
