CMAKeith Urban references one of his favorite singers in his latest hit, “John Cougar, John Deere, John 3:16.” Growing up in Australia, John Cougar, who now performs under his given name, John Mellencamp, had a big role in shaping Keith’s early ideas of America.

Keith tells Billboard, “His songwriting was such a huge part of my life. I almost feel like between all the TV I grew up with in Australia and John Mellencamp’s music — among many others — I knew what it meant to live there and grow up there.”

“John Cougar, John Deere, John 3:16” is the lead single from Keith’s upcoming studio album, due out later this year.
