ABC/Byron CohenKelsea Ballerini is throwing down the gauntlet at her Rhythm & Roots tourmates, Rascal Flatts. After a thoughtful overture went wrong, she’s calling “Dibs” on one of the oldest country tour traditions of all.

“We are planning tour pranks,” she confesses. “The other day, it was in Wisconsin at the state fair, and they’re famous for their cream puffs. And I go back on stage for an encore with them and I brought Gary [LeVox] a cream puff on stage as a nice gesture, for him to have a snack. And he pied me in the face with it on stage! So it’s war, now. This is war, Flatts!” she jokes.

While Kelsea’s busy working on her strategy, her latest single, “Peter Pan,” is knocking on the door of number-one, the same week this year’s CMA Awards nominations are set to come out.

“I was nominated for New Artist last year and that’d be really cool to be back in that category,” she reflects. “But honestly, I’d be really, really, really honored if ‘Peter Pan’ got some kind of recognition. That’d be cool.”

Looking back on the past year, the Knoxville, Tennessee native admits her life has changed drastically as her career has exploded.

“It’s gotten a lot busier! I can’t believe it’s been a year since the CMA nominations came out last time, which I got to do on GMA, which was really cool. Everything’s changed. Yeah, everything!”

We’ll find out about this year’s nominations when Keith UrbanDierks Bentley and Cam announce the nods Wednesday, live on ABC’s Good Morning America.
