Danny ClinchKenny Chesney has a good reason for kicking off his Big Revival tour in Nashville this Thursday and Friday.

Chesney turns 47 on Thursday, and he wanted to celebrate it with a special woman in his life. He explains to USA Today, “My mom wanted to be with me on my birthday, but I wanted to open my tour on my birthday, which meant I had to do it pretty close to home.”

Chesney took a cue from Major League Baseball and took part in his own “spring training” earlier this year to prepare for the tour. He went on a strict diet that includes not eating carbs after 5 p.m., “and that’s tough. But I eat a lot of vegetables.”  He also works out one hour per day.

Chesney’s crew is surely looking forward to the dates ahead on the tour — and the possibility for a big payday. The singer says he will put his crew’s names into a hat for a monthly drawing to win proceeds from merchandise sales. In the past, he explains, “they ended up splitting it amongst everybody, so not just one person got it. They could have, but they decided to take the money and split it, which is great.”
