CMAShreveport, Louisiana native Kix Brooks donated $30,000 to help his flood-ravaged home state, Sunday at the Acadiana Strong benefit concert in Opelousas. The money comes from the CMA Foundation and will go specifically to help music education in the Baton Rouge area.
“We sometimes don’t realize until a disaster of this magnitude happens how important it is to be able to rebuild music programs that otherwise may take years to rebuild,” Kix explains. “Being from Louisiana, this is heartfelt appreciation just knowing what the folks in my home state are going through,” he adds.
The CMA Foundation’s latest donation will go directly to Music Rising, a non-profit U2’s The Edge founded in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. So far, the Country Music Association has given $325,000 all around the state to help keep music education going in spite of the devastation.
