Sony LegacyBelieve it or not, up until recently, country legends Loretta Lynn and Willie Nelson hadn’t seen each other for more than three decades. The two were last together for one of Willie’s passion projects, Farm Aid, back in 1985. That all changed, however, when they shot the music video for their new duet.
“I am so proud to be able to sing a song with my friend, Willie,” the Coal Miner’s Daughter remarked. “I love this song ‘Lay Me Down’ so much… Willie and I got to meet and talk about old times… [He] is one of those people that even if you haven’t seen them for 30 years you feel like it was just yesterday. We have a natural respect and love for each other.”
Willie echoed her sentiments. “I’m excited to have a new record and video out with Ms. Loretta Lynn, who is one of the few remaining traditional country artists, and one of my favorite people. She’s an original!”
The pair’s new collaboration was shot at Nashville’s Municipal Auditorium, which would’ve been Music City’s premiere venue in their heyday. During the first two-thirds of the emotional song dealing with mortality, the Country Music Hall of Famers wander the empty venue separately, until Loretta joins Willie onstage for the song’s conclusion.
