Legacy RecordingsLoretta Lynn believes Donald Trump will come out on top in the race for the White House — and it turns out the Coal Miner’s Daughter has more experience with the Oval Office than you might expect.

“I think Donald Trump is going to be our next president,” she tells Billboard, adding that she’s met the billionaire and she likes him. “I mean, Donald’s Donald,” she laughs.

Though Loretta is perhaps best known politically for campaigning for George H.W. Bush in 1988, she has presidential allies across party lines, having delivered command performances for Richard Nixon, Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan as well.

She tells the magazine Carter was her favorite. “There’s no backstage, and the place was packed,” she says of her 1977 White House visit. “But he sent me a note that said, ‘Sing ‘One’s on the Way’ and ‘They Don’t Make ‘Em Like Daddy Anymore’ and ‘Coal Miner’s Daughter.’ I thought, ‘Well, shoot, this is what he wants me to sing,’ so I sang them.”

One of her most recent trips to the White House was when President Barack Obama gave her the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2013. “ I like Obama, and I like his wife. I liked Bill Clinton, too. Of course, I always felt like I knew Bill,” she adds.

Next week, Billboard honors Loretta with its Legend award at its Women in Music event. The 83-year-old shows no signs of slowing down, with her new album, Full Circle, due March 4.
