Randee St. NicholasIt’s been a year and a half since Martina McBride released her album of soul covers, Everlasting, and more than four years since her last country effort, Eleven. But judging from the progress she’s making, it looks like it won’t be too terribly long until we have a new record from the four-time CMA Female Vocalist of the Year.
“Well, it’s coming along. We’ve cut five songs so far, and I love it. So far, it’s looking to be one of my favorite albums I’ve ever made. It’s kind of a little bit of a throwback in a way to Evolution. It reminds me of that record and Wild Angels. Very organic, very kinda rootsy,” she reflects.
1997’s Evolution brought big hits with “A Broken Wing,” “Happy Girl” and “Wrong Again,” while 1995’s Wild Angels boasted “Safe in the Arms of Love” and the chart-topping title track. Martina heads back into the studio next month to work on more tunes for the new project.
“You know my goal is to find the best songs I can find and so far, I’ve found seven songs total. We’re ready to cut again in December. I’m just so excited about it. It’s really turning out great. I can’t wait for you to hear it!” she says.
You won’t have to wait for the new record to hear Martina’s signature soprano, though. She’ll perform “White Christmas” and “What Child Is This” on CMA Country Christmas December 3 at 9 p.m. ET on ABC. She even hints that she hopes to record a new holiday collection in time for next year.
