Warner Music NashvilleThough she sold out the show all on her own, Ashley Monroe called in the big guns when it came time for her performance Friday night at Nashville’s City Winery.

“I just released a record this year called The Blade, and I’m gonna do that song and I’m gonna have the special guest vocalist that sang on the record with me sing it the first time live really ever,” Ashley teased, “so here’s little Miss Miranda Lambert!” The six-time CMA Female Vocalist of the Year walked onstage dressed all in black, ready to add harmony vocals to the title track of Ashley’s latest album.

The two good friends also engaged in a little Lucy and Ethel-esque banter before singing one of Miranda’s hits, written during a getaway to Dollywood.

“We were sittin’ out on this cabin porch and she grabbed a steak knife because I thought I heard a bear,” Ashley confessed.

“You’ve gotta be prepared!” Miranda interjected.

“She sleeps with a gun, don’t anyone sneak up on her, take it from me!” Ashley countered.

“She always calls and says, ‘I’m coming over, don’t shoot!’” Miranda joked.

“Or ‘I’m sending flowers. FedEx is coming. Don’t shoot ‘em,’” Ashley laughed.

“She sent me flowers one time that just said ‘Hi.’ It was awesome,” Miranda smiled.

“Anyway, we wrote this song in the mountains of East Tennessee and she recorded it and made it a number one, which I am so grateful for,” Ashley said, launching into Miranda’s hit, “Heart Like Mine.”

Ashley plays The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas on December 4, before heading overseas for a series of dates in the United Kingdom in March. She’s also hinted that 2016 may bring new music from Pistol Annies, her trio with Miranda and Angaleena Presley.
