ABCOn Wednesday night’s Nashville, even though she’d lost custody of Maddie, Rayna Jaymes still worked to keep her daughter from repeating the same mistakes she’d made in the music business. While she tried to engineer it so the aspiring artist could sign with a label she trusted in Music City, Rayna was shocked to find Maddie’s friend Cash had apparently transformed Maddie Conrad into Maddie Jaymes to capitalize on her mother’s fame. In the end, she signed with a label in New York, leaving Rayna at a total loss.
When Juliette Barnes’ Shenandoah Girl co-star Noah West, played by Derek Hough, showed up at a Hollywood event on the arm of real-life star Kesha, a new romance was born for the newly divorced mother of one. Meanwhile, Juliette’s ex Avery Barkley was shocked when a tabloid photographer captured photos of him kissing Layla Grant. In the end, it looked likely the scheming up-and-comer had set the whole thing up herself for its publicity value.
Will Lexington was distraught to discover his mother had died and his father didn’t even want the now-out country singer at her funeral. Will still managed to attend the service, and his father was so moved by the way he conducted himself, he seemed to soften toward the son he’d so strongly rejected. Back in Nashville, Will’s label head Luke Wheeler fired his manager after they disagreed over how to handle the gay country artist’s career.
The brief rekindling of the romance between The Exes only seemed to breed new discord between Scarlett O’Connor and Gunnar Scott. Scarlett grew increasingly uncomfortable over the attention headliner Autumn Chase seemed to heap on Gunnar.
A series of heavy losses brought the now-sober Deacon Claybourne face to face with the bottle again. His betrayal by AA sponsor and business partner Frankie Gray seemed to make his whole life unravel. He lost custody of his daughter, was forced to move out of the house with Rayna after a fight with Frankie landed him in jail, and was now being pushed out of his bar, The Beverly. As the episode ended, it seemed likely Deacon’s sobriety might not last long.
The drama of Nashville continues next Wednesday night at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
