CMTOn Thursday night’s new episode of Nashville on CMT, Juliette Barnes battled with demons both past and present as she struggled to stage her first concert since the plane crash that left her paralyzed for a time.

Shades of Juliette’s diva behavior returned, as she decided against performing songs from her universally-panned gospel album. She lied to new friend and muse Hallie Jordan, which led to a confrontation that threatened to end her relationship with her church. Ultimately, Juliette pushed through and decided to perform her new material after all, and her choir showed up to support her.

At the same time, Avery Barkley pursued his own musical career while supporting Juliette, landing an opening spot on a 20-city tour after an impressive performance. Though Juliette never knew anything about it, Avery decided to pass on the opportunity, knowing she was too fragile for him to go on the road.

Daphne Conrad continued to find solace in her new friendship with Liv, a homeless, injured teen who she eventually brought home with her. Though her stepfather Deacon Claybourne was shocked to find Liv hiding in Daphne’s room, he agreed to let her stay until they could figure out a better living arrangement.

Meanwhile, at Highway 65, Deacon worked to protect Rayna’s longtime manager Bucky, even though Zach Welles wanted him out. In the end, Deacon’s financial partner prevailed, and Bucky resigned.

Scarlett O’Connor finally answered the incessant calls of Damien George, and agreed to meet with the man who’d directed her video and stolen her heart for a time. After she told him that he’s the father of her baby, Scarlett was shocked when Damien confessed his love and proposed the two try to be a family for their child.
