ABC/Mark LevineFor Luke Bryan fans, this December not only brought his chart-topping What Makes You Country album, it also ushered in the Georgia native’s recording of the Christmas favorite, “O Holy Night.”

It’s a song Luke says he’s wanted to tackle for a long time.

“It’s just an amazing classic — timeless,” he says. “I’ve always loved that song. I remember being a kid, always loving John Berry‘s version of that. And I’d always try to sing along with him, and I told myself, ‘One day if my voice ever gets there, I may try it.’”

Luke confesses he couldn’t be happier with how his version turned out.

“We went in the studio this summer,” he explains, “and did a real broke-down version of it, just piano — not me on piano, I’m not that good of a piano player — and we recorded it. And it’s one of my favorite vocals I’ve ever done on anything. I couldn’t be more proud of it.”

You can hear Luke sing “O Holy Night” tonight on CMA Country Christmas, as it re-airs at 9 p.m. ET on ABC.
