ABC/Fred LeeThis weekend, Old Dominion wraps up their second summer in a row playing major stadiums with Kenny Chesney. While their spot on one of country music’s biggest tours has helped boost the band’s career, Trevor Rosen says it’s also been a blast getting to hang with the headliner, as well as fellow openers Sam Hunt and Miranda Lambert.
“It’s not like we’re all back there having a campfire the entire time,” the guitar and keyboard player clarifies. “But… we do get to spend a little bit of time, so that’s a lot of fun, to see fellow artists and get to know some people that maybe we’ve grown up listening to or been listening to for the last few years.”
“You didn’t make it to the campfire, man!” lead singer Matthew Ramsey prods.
“Brad [Tursi] plays a mean acoustic version of ‘Thunderstruck,’ so it’s pretty amazing,” Trevor jokes, referencing the nineties hit from AC/DC.
“Oh, he did play ‘American Girl’…” Matthew reminds him, recalling the Tom Petty classic.
“Oh, we did, actually we were hanging on Kenny’s bus one night and Brad busted out ‘American Girl’ and the whole bus was singing along, so it was fun!”
Friday and Saturday, Old Dominion and their Spread the Love tourmates take over the home of the New England Patriots in Foxboro, Massachusetts. OD embarks on their own headlining Meat & Candy trek this fall.
