ABC/Image Group LA Luke Bryan may’ve scored some major points with his wife Caroline by giving her two baby kangaroos for Christmas, but his exotic present has landed him in hot water with PETA, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.

The vice president of the animal rights organization calls Luke out in a statement on PETA’s website.

“Baby kangaroos belong in their mothers’ pouches, not in gift bags,” Colleen O’Brien says. “These joeys have complex needs, including specialized diets and room to roam — they are not toys and will only become more difficult to care for as they grow older.”

O’Brien goes on to say, “PETA is calling for an investigation into where these kangaroos came from and stands ready to help Luke Bryan right this wrong and move these vulnerable marsupials to a reputable sanctuary.”

The kangaroos — which Luke and Caroline named Todd and Margo — will live at Brett’s Barn, a project named for the couple’s niece, Sadie Brett, who died early last year. Brett’s Barn works with local charities to bring children to visit rescue animals who live on Luke’s Tennessee farm.

You can check out Caroline meeting the ‘roos via a video posted on Luke’s Instagram. Shortly afterward, the What Makes You Country superstar posted a photo of the kangaroos lying by the fire wearing diapers, and added, “They are adjusting perfectly [and] are beyond sweet and precious.”
