Eric AdkinsYou might think it’s only appropriate that 2015’s Sexiest Man in Country Music should be starring in a video filled with young, beautiful women. But certified good guy Scotty McCreery plays down both the slightly embarrassing title from NASH Country Weekly and the fact he got to spend a whole day filming with college cheerleaders for the “Southern Belle” shoot.

“It’s flattering, very flattering,” he says of the honor voted on by the magazine’s readers. “The fans, they always [in] those polls, they come out in droves. I’ve got some passionate fans, so [it’s] very flattering. I hope my friends back home do not see that because I will get some good-natured ribbing when I get back there,” he jokes.

As for the new video for the first single from his forthcoming third album, Scotty says he did have fun making it.

“You know it’s a little different than most of my videos. Before I’ve always tried to have my friends in there and go back home. But this one I was like let’s just stay in town. Let’s go to Nashville. We got the Belmont cheerleaders, the Lipscomb cheerleaders, got the Vanderbilt band. We got some Nashville Predators girls in there,” he adds, referencing Music City’s hockey team.

While the 22-year-old agrees the “Southern Belle” girls are very attractive, he says he was the most impressed by how athletic they are.

“For me it was more about showcasing the strong women and showing them flipping and turning and showing off their strength. I don’t understand how they can do that with their bodies. Anybody that says cheerleading is not a sport, they don’t really pay attention… I played baseball, which is considered a sport and I couldn’t do half the stuff they’re doing,” he admits.

The American Idol winner’s third project is due sometime next year, with his first book set for release on May 3. Fans can pre-order Go Big Or Go Home: The Journey Toward the Dream starting November 15.
