ABC/Image Group LAEven against a historic finish to the World Series, the half-century edition of country music’s biggest awards show still proved it can hold its own. While most eyes were on the Chicago Cubs victory over the Cleveland Indians, The 50th Annual CMA Awards still reigned as the top non-sports event on TV Wednesday night.

Close to 13 million people tuned in to see a retrospective of country music’s past five decades, as well as the genre-defying performance by Beyonce and the Dixie Chicks, and a who’s-who of current hitmakers delivering their latest material.

The final story on the landmark show is still yet to be told. The 2016 CMA Awards are expected to deliver the biggest ratings increase in its history, once all those folks who were watching baseball cue up their DVRs.
