Riley County USD 378 Superintendent Cliff Williams has confirmed to KMAN that the school district and the Riley County Police Department are working together after an email was sent to parents about a suspicious man who approached a student Wednesday and tried to entice the child into his vehicle.

According to a letter from Riley County Grade School Principal Teresa Grant first posted by WIBW, the unnamed student was near Riley City Park sometime after school when the man drove up in a white truck. The man told the child he had ice cream back at his home and invited the student to get into the truck.

The student went home and told a parent, who, in turn, reached out to the RCPD.

Grant told parents she has asked RCPD to send over an officer when school is dismissed to help keep her students safe. School officials and staff have been notified as well. Grant added she was not sending the letter to escalate fear among parents. In the letter, she says she wanted them to know what was going on, and ask them to keep an eye out and report any suspicious activity.
