ABC/Image Group LAWhile there are plenty of superstitions surrounding New Year’s Day, particularly in the South, one of the members of Maddie & Tae won’t be participating as we welcome 2016.
Some believe eating black-eyed peas and greens on the first day of year will bring financial prosperity, while others, like Hank Williams, Jr., say you have to eat black-eyed peas and ham or your favorite teams will lose all their games. After a bad experience with the southern staple, Maddie Marlowe says she’s foregoing all the old wives’ tales this year.
“I don’t have any superstitions because the black-eyed peas made me throw up one year,” she confesses. “So I’m not a fan of the black-eyed peas thing anymore. So, I just go into a new year with a good mind set and just start at that.”
Maddie & Tae will finish out the year that saw them win their first CMA Award for the Video of the Year for “Girl in a Country Song” by taking some much-deserved time off. The duo’s current single, “Shut Up and Fish,” continues to climb the charts as they look forward to their first date of 2016 on February 19 in Miami, Oklahoma.
