Sony Music NashvilleWhile Old Dominion’s debut hit “Break Up With Him” is steadily making its way toward the top ten, two members of the band actually wrote another song that’s outdoing them on the charts. Lead singer Matthew Ramsey and guitarist Brad Tursi are two of the writers behind Kenny Chesney’s smash “Save It For A Rainy Day.”

Ironically, Brad says Matthew actually predicted Kenny would record it even before they made the demo.

“I make a lot of demos like at home myself of the songs we write and stuff. So, Matt said, ‘You gonna demo that song?’” Brad remembers.  “I was like, ‘Yeah. I just…I hadn’t thought about it. And he was like, ‘Well, do you want a Kenny Chesney cut or not?’” he laughs.

Even though Kenny wanted to tweak some of the lyrics before he recorded it, Matthew says he was happy to help the superstar make the changes.

“We kinda whittled it down to somethin’ that he felt like he wanted to sing, which is amazing, ’cause I think a lot of artists would just be like, ‘It’s not quite what I want; I’m gonna pass.’ And he said, ‘It’s not quite what I want; I want to fix it so that it is.’ And he did, and I’m really glad.”

“Break Up With Him” continues to chase “Save It For A Rainy Day” up the charts, as Old Dominion gets their debut CD Meat and Candy ready for release on November 6.
