“You Can’t Stop Me” Keeps the Suits & Boots Energy Alive for Brett Eldredge and Thomas Rhett

CMTEven though the craziness that was Brett Eldredge and Thomas Rhett‘s Suits & Boots Tour is now in the history books, there is one piece of the madness that lives on — the pair’s duet  on “You Can’t Stop Me” on Brett’s Illinois album. Brett says he knew when he wrote the song that it met his criteria for an infectious dance number.

“I wrote this song a year ago I guess,” he recalls. “It was just such a groovy song. And it was so fun. We were just kinda having fun with it. I want a song that will make you dance if you are in a deep sleep. I want this song that plays and as soon as you hear it, you’re jumping out of bed dancing. It’s like you can’t help but groove to it, no matter what it is, no matter if it’s something you haven’t heard from me yet, you can’t help but groove to it. It’s just crazy and it’s kinda retro and it’s soulful and it’s fun.”

The other thing that was apparent to Brett when he wrote it  is who he should record it with.

“This was a perfect fit for [Thomas] and I to do together. I sent it to him in an email, and he was like, ‘Dude, I’m so in. When can we do it?’ And I brought him into the studio the day I was tracking and we got the vocals right there, that day. And it was just natural,” Brett remembers.

Right now, both artists are climbing the charts with their solo hits, Thomas with “Die a Happy Man” and Brett with “Drunk on Your Love,” but if the timing is right, their duet could some day be a single. Next year, Thomas heads out with Jason Aldean and A Thousand Horses on the We Were Here trek, while Brett has yet to announce his tour plans for 2016.
