A Manhattan man was arrested Wednesday evening on multiple offender registration and perjury charges, according to authorities.

Andre Curtis Andrews Sr., 48, of Manhattan, was taken into custody at approximately 8:01 p.m. May 13th, 2026, in the 500 block of Stonedale Drive on a Riley County District Court warrant.

The warrant includes seven counts of violating the offender registration act, two counts of perjury and one count of aggravated violation of the offender registration act.

Andrews was issued no bond and remains confined in the Riley County Jail at the time of this report.

Northeast Kansas could see multiple rounds of severe weather beginning Thursday and continuing through at least Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service in Topeka.

Forecasters say a hot and humid air mass moving into the region will increase the potential for thunderstorms capable of producing large hail and damaging winds. While the severe weather threat remains conditional on storms developing, most areas in the region are expected to face at least some risk each day.

For Thursday, the Storm Prediction Center has placed much of central and northeast Kansas under a slight risk, or level 2 out of 5, for severe storms. The National Weather Service says isolated thunderstorms may develop during the morning, with another round possible later in the afternoon and evening. Large hail and damaging winds are the primary concerns.

Additional slight risks for severe weather are forecast Friday and Saturday, with storm chances expected during the afternoon and evening hours both days. Confidence in storm development remains low to medium because of a cap in the atmosphere that could limit thunderstorm formation.

Looking ahead to Sunday through Tuesday, forecasters say the threat for severe weather may become more organized as a dryline and later a cold front move through the region. Monday currently appears to have the greatest potential for more widespread storm development. Tuesday’s primary threat may shift toward isolated damaging wind gusts along a line of storms.

The National Weather Service is encouraging residents with outdoor plans to stay weather aware and have multiple ways to receive warnings throughout the week.

One person was killed and another seriously injured Wednesday afternoon in a rollover crash on Interstate 70 in Dickinson County, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred at approximately 3:47 p.m. May 13 on eastbound I-70 near mile marker 271.5, about 1.1 miles west of Fair Road. Investigators said a 2023 Honda CR-V was traveling eastbound when, it veered off the roadway, struck an embankment and rolled multiple times before coming to rest upright facing northeast.

The driver, identified as 85-year-old Robert W. Huff of Clarksburg, West Virginia, sustained suspected serious injuries and was transported to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

The passenger, 81-year-old Bonnie K. Huff of Clarksburg, suffered fatal injuries.

The crash report states Robert Huff was wearing a seat belt, while Bonnie Huff was not.

Darrell Lee Stevens, 41, of Manhattan, was taken into custody at approximately 12:11 p.m. May 12, 2026, in the 100 block of Courthouse Plaza on a Riley County District Court warrant.

The warrant includes eight counts of violating the offender registration act and one count of perjury.

Stevens was issued a total bond of $150,000 and remains confined in the Riley County Jail at the time of this report.

A 20-year-old Manhattan man on Monday received a prison sentence of 12 years and 3 months with the Kansas Department of Corrections after pleading guilty to aggravated criminal sodomy against a child.

Kelvy Houston Abbott pleaded guilty to the charge March 30 in Riley County District Court after entering a plea deal with the Riley County attorney’s office. In return for his plea, the court dropped Abbott’s remaining charge of aggravated indecent liberties with a child.

A Wichita man whose trial in Riley County District Court was scheduled to begin Tuesday failed to appear in court Tuesday morning. A judge issued a warrant for the man as a result.

Judge John Bosch issued a bond revocation and bench warrant for the arrest of Jamal Rhsard Williams, 47, with a new bond of $250,000.

Williams was arrested Dec. 28, 2024 and was released on a $40,000 bond the next day. He is charged with distribution of at least 100 grams of methamphetamine, distribution of between 50 and 250 doses of fentanyl, distribution of between 1 and 3.5 grams of fentanyl, possession of drug bags, interference with a felony arrest warrant and trafficking fentanyl into a correctional facility.

Police are investigating a burglary reported Monday morning in Manhattan, according to the Riley County Police Department.

Officers filed a report at approximately 11:39 a.m. May 11 in the 2000 block of Hayes Drive. A 46-year-old man reported that an unknown suspect damaged doors and windows to gain entry into multiple properties.

The total estimated loss associated with the case is $1,000.

Anyone with information related to the incident is asked to contact RCPD or Manhattan Riley County Crime Stoppers. Tips can be submitted anonymously and may qualify for a cash reward of up to $1,000.
